Parking Study to Support Downtown Parking Planning
The Town has begun collecting parking utilization data to help guide future downtown improvements. By better understanding how parking occupancy, turnover, and length of stay downtown, the Town can make parking more convenient, reduce congestion, and improve access for residents, employees, and visitors.
How data will be collected:
- Mobile License Plate Recognition (LPR): Town parking enforcement vehicles will gather ongoing parking occupancy and turnover data for 30 days in addition to a targeted 2-day study.
- Drone Surveys: An FAA-certified pilot will conduct limited drone flights to capture aerial images of parking availability.
What this means for the community:
- Privacy protection is a priority. LPR data is anonymized and deleted after use, and drone imagery is used solely to count vehicles, not people.
The study will take place through October 15th and will provide valuable insights to support parking management strategies and future downtown planning.
