Privacy and Account History

The Los Gatos Library takes the privacy of your library records seriously. Therefore, we do not keep track of what you borrow after you return it. Protecting user privacy and confidentiality has long been an integral part of the mission of libraries. The American Library Association has affirmed a right to privacy since 1939. However, our automated third-party patron accounting system has a feature called "My Reading History" that allows you to track items you check out. By default, this feature is turned on and your reading history is saved.  You may opt out or delete entries in "My Reading History" at any time. As a default of our "My Reading History," you agree to allow our automated system to store this data.

Library staff does not have access to your "My Reading History" list, however, it is subject to all applicable local, state, and federal laws, and could be examined by law enforcement authorities without your permission. If you would like to keep your circulation history entirely private, you should turn off the "My Reading History" feature.

To turn off the My Reading History feature, log into your library account and go to the Reading History tab. Click the button on the top right side that says "Stop Recording My Reading History".
