Pardon our Dust (and Noise) – Major Street Maintenance Begins Monday July 17

The Town of Los Gatos is committed to maintaining and improving the Town’s street network.  The Town Council recently approved two projects to improve pavement surfaces throughout the Town.  These projects include an asphalt overlay project and a slurry seal project that are scheduled to begin on Monday, July 17th and be complete by mid-September.  Major roadways within the Town to receive treatments include the following:

  • Los Gatos Boulevard from Hwy 9 to Lark Ave.
  • Blossom Hill Road from Los Gatos Blvd. to Cherry Blossom Ln. and Harwood Rd. to Belgatos Rd.
  • Lark Avenue from Winchester Blvd. to Arroyo Grande Way
During the work on Los Gatos Boulevard, access will be limited to driveways, including those of businesses.  To minimize the impact, some work will be performed at night.  This work involves removing asphalt pavement, which can be noisy.  The times and dates for this night work are as follows:
8 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the following nights -
  • Wednesday, July 19th
  • Thursday, July 20th
  • Friday, July 21st

Additional night work on Los Gatos Boulevard is anticipated for the week of July 24th.  A notification regarding the dates of this night work will be provided when the schedule is finalized.
Questions regarding the project can be directed to the Town of Los Gatos Parks and Public Works Department at (408) 399-5770.

Cafes Nearby

Where did the Library Coffee Cart Go?

The Town’s five-year contract with Los Gatos Roasting Company to operate a the coffee cart in the Library ended on June 30, 2017. In anticipation of the end of the lease, a Request for Proposals (RFP) was distributed in April to a number of potential vendors including Los Gatos Roasting Company.
The owner of Los Gatos Roasting Company informed the Town that they were not interested in continuing the concession, because although the coffee cart had generated good will for the company it was not generating enough income to continue the service.
Unfortunately, the Town received no responses to the RFP.  A flyer listing several nearby cafes and coffee houses is available in the library and patrons continue to be allowed to bring in food and drinks.

Next Steps for the North 40 Development Proposal

The Town Council met in closed session on June 27, 2017 to discuss with legal counsel whether to file an appeal of the Superior Court decision and Judgement regarding the North 40 Project.  A motion was made by Councilmember Spector and seconded by Councilmember Jensen to direct staff to not file an appeal.  The motion passed unanimously.

A Special Town Council meeting is scheduled for July 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers located at 110 E. Main Street to set aside the denial of the Project and reconsider the Project pursuant to the Superior Court Decision and Judgement.

Summer is here and so is the heat!

Summer is upon us and with it our first real heat wave of the season. While we enjoy all that our beautiful Town has to offer this summer, please remember some of the following hot weather precautions:

  • Drink more water than usual.

  • Wear a hat and light-colored clothing when you go out.

  • Help kids and the elderly stay cool.

  • Help pets find a cool spot and provide extra water.

  • During the hottest hours of the day, avoid strenuous activities and stay in air-conditioned  buildings.

  • Remember to never leave pets or kids in a parked car!

If you have family members or neighbors who may need a place to cool down this summer, our Library is a wonderful place to relax and read and beat the heat:

Make A Difference

Wondering How You Can Make a Difference in Keeping the Town Looking Good?

There are a couple of things that residents can do. You can adopt a highway - where you provide cleanup or you can even cover the cost of a third party contractor to do it. The nice part about this is that you get to see the section of highway and the difference you make. Email or browse to the Caltrans Adopt a Highway web page:

You can volunteer on the Town's Adopt a Highway team. We have adopted the circle ramps at Highway 9 and go out every couple months to clean those up. It is a great way to connect with other residents who share the same interest. Email Marina at to participate.

Similarly, there is a local Beautification Committee that is a sub-committee of the Los Gatos Community Foundation. This committee meets quarterly but more importantly they conduct monthly cleanups on Saturday mornings on targeted areas in Town. Email Nancy at

Finally, you can pick an area of interest to you and your neighbors and take it on. If you need help (garbage bags, reflective vests, pick up sticks) we can check them out to you. And you can even return the trash bags full and we’ll keep them. Email

In summary, there are a number of ways you can connect and make a difference!
