Happy Halloween!  Halloween Night Road Closures

Due to the anticipated amount of trick-or-treaters and vehicle traffic on Tait Avenue, the Town of Los Gatos has determined that the closure of Tait Avenue to vehicular traffic is an appropriate safety action on the evening of Halloween.
 
Tait Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday, October 31, 2015 between the hours of 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.  The closure will include all of Tait Avenue from W. Main Street to Almendra Avenue and portions of side streets.

Halloween is almost here! As you put the finishing touches on your children's costumes (or your own—who said grown-ups can’t get into the spirit, too?), The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department would like to share some safety tips for trick-or-treating.

1. Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
2. Add reflective tape to costumes and bags.
3. Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct vision.
4. Make sure swords, canes, or sticks are short and not sharp.
5. Prepare flashlights with fresh batteries for children and escorts.
6. Examine all treats for choking hazards and signs of tampering.  Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.
7. Walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic.
8. Only visit homes with a porch light on and never enter a home or car for a treat.
9. Teach children to call 911 if they have an emergency or become lost.
10. If your older children are going alone, plan and review the route that is acceptable to you. Agree on a specific time when they should return home.

2016-2018 Poet Laureate
Application Deadline is November 2, 2015

The Town of Los Gatos is currently accepting applications for a Poet Laureate. The application deadline is November 2, 2015.  This prestigious position serves a two-year term as the ambassador of poetry and the literary arts for the community.

Poet Laureate Duties and Responsibilities:

• Be available to present and to provide poems for significant civic openings or Town celebrations during the two-year appointment.
• Incorporate in-person and multi-media efforts to advocate for the appreciation and advancement of poetry and the literary arts.
• Visit schools and attend Town functions as needed.
• Undertake a significant cultural project with resonance to the Town and the lifestyle of Los Gatos.

There could be a wide variety of projects. Past examples include:

• Coordinate and host poetry readings at local public venues
• Establish poetry slams at local schools
• Arrange for a published collection of Los Gatos poetry

November 3, 2015  Council Agenda 
is Now Available Online

 
The agenda for the November 3, 2015 Town Council meeting is available online.  Town Council meetings are held regularly on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are held in the Town Council Chambers located at 110 E. Main Street.

Volunteer to Serve on the Ad Hoc Citizen Committee Application Deadline Extended to
Friday, November 6, 2015

 
The Town of Los Gatos is seeking Town residents (who live in the incorporated areas of Los Gatos) interested in serving on an Ad Hoc Citizen Committee to evaluate and provide recommendations to the Town Council regarding the need for and composition of a potential ballot measure to fund various Town services, programs, operations, and maintenance activities in the Town. (i.e., utility taxes and an increase to the Town’s Transient Occupancy Tax)
 
The application period has been extended until Friday, November 6, 2015, for the remaining position.  The interview date and time are to be determined. The Committee will meet from November 2015 through August 2016 to work with staff to study the issues, seek public input (including a community survey), and report back to Council with recommendations and drafted ballot language, if any. The public meetings will be held in the Town Council Chamber beginning in November.
 
Applications are available in the Town Clerk’s Office at 110 E. Main St. or can be downloaded from the Town website.  Applications are due at the Town Clerk’s Office by Friday, November 6, 2015, by 5 p.m.
