PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff Program

Portions of Los Gatos recently experienced its first PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).  As part of PG&E's efforts to reduce wildfire risk, PG&E is turning off power on days with a high risk of wildfire due to low humidity, sustained winds, dry vegetation, and Red Flag Warning days.

Based on those conditions and the fact that a large portion of our Town resides in a Very High Fire Hazard Area (VHFHA), there is a high likelihood that the Town and surrounding areas may experience more power shutoffs in the coming months.

PG&E has informed customers that power outages due to PSPS events could last between two and seven days.  For information on how to prepare for a potential multi-day power outage and stay safe, click here

Lifesaving Information For Emergencies (L.I.F.E.) File

Emergencies can happen when we least expect them to and many of the requests for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) happen within the home. The Town of Los Gatos is partnering with the Santa Clara County Fire Department to promote their new L.I.F.E. file program. The L.I.F.E. File is a simple tool individuals and families may use to assist emergency responders during a medical emergency.   First Responders rely heavily upon the patient, and/or the patient’s family members, to provide information used to help in the treatment and care of the patient. However, there are times when the patient is unable to provide this information and family members may not be present or available to assist First Responders during a medical emergency. The L.I.F.E. File information includes past pertinent medical history, allergies to medications, medications currently prescribed to the patient, advanced medical directives and any additional information. The L.I.F.E. File pouch is a vinyl magnetic pouch that is placed in an easily seen location on the front or side of the refrigerator.

You may pick up L.I.F.E. Files from Town Hall and local fire stations. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information on the L.I.F.E. File program please contact Jackie Rose, Community Outreach Coordinator at

Volunteers sought for Bike Valet at Local Events

The Los Gatos Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is supporting free Bike Valet parking at local events, building on the success of the Red, White and Blue block party, where we parked over 100 bikes, so we are ready with plenty of space and racks. Volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! You can sign up with some friends and make a date of it and high school students can even receive community service hours. Cyclists arriving at the event are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Typically volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts with each shift led by an experienced commissioner. If you would like to help out, please contact Maria Ristow, to become a part of this amazing volunteer team. Help us take more cars off the road and make it easy for people to bike downtown.
