Short-Term Rentals at the February 5, 2019 Town Council Meeting

A potential short-term rental ordinance will be discussed at the February 5, 2019 Town Council meeting.

At the October 2, 2018 Town Council meeting, Council directed staff to refer the short-term rental item to the Policy Committee for further discussion. On December 20, 2018 the Policy Committee recommended Council approval of a draft ordinance.  The Town seeks community input on this issue.

Short-term rental is the practice of renting out a portion of, or an entire home, to a person or group of people for a period of less than 30 nights. In recent years, there has been exponential growth through "sharing economy" websites such as Airbnb and VRBO.

Community members can share input on potential regulations for short-term rentals at the Town Council meeting on February 5, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in Town Council Chambers located at
110 E Main Street.

The October 2, 2018 Town Council staff report regarding the short-term rental issue can be found by clicking
here.  The October 18, 2018 Policy Committee agenda and reports, which includes short-term rentals as item 4, can be accessed by clicking here.  The November 15, 2018 Policy Committee agenda and reports, which include short-term rentals as item 2, can be accessed by clicking here.  The December 20, 2018 Policy Committee agenda and reports, which include short-term rentals as item 2, can be accessed by clicking here.  Questions or comments about this item can be emailed to Arn Andrews at aandrews@losgatosca.gov.

Alert SCC

Disasters Don't Plan Ahead.
You Can.

The County's Office of Emergency Services offers two simple steps you can take to help prepare for disasters and protect your family. The first is to sign-up for the County's emergency alert system, which is AlertSCC.  Second, create a family disaster preparedness plan with the new ReadySCC app. ReadySCC helps you create a plan, put together a kit, and know what to do and where to go in an emergency.  You can download ReadySCC for free from the App Store or Google Play.

MED-Project Program

The Police Department is participating in the County of Santa Clara MED-Project Program (Medication, Education, and Disposal), designed to encourage proper disposal of prescription medications. This is a free service fully funded by the MED-Project. Government facilities and private businesses (drug stores) within the County are receiving secured disposal bins for kiosk disposal of qualified medications. The bins are like US Postal Mailboxes and there is a disposal bin currently located in the Police Operations Building lobby.

Lifesaving Information For Emergencies (L.I.F.E.) File

Emergencies can happen when we least expect them to and many of the requests for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) happen within the home. The Town of Los Gatos is partnering with the Santa Clara County Fire Department to promote their new L.I.F.E. file program. The L.I.F.E. File is a simple tool individuals and families may use to assist emergency responders during a medical emergency.   First Responders rely heavily upon the patient, and/or the patient’s family members, to provide information used to help in the treatment and care of the patient. However, there are times when the patient is unable to provide this information and family members may not be present or available to assist First Responders during a medical emergency. The L.I.F.E. File information includes past pertinent medical history, allergies to medications, medications currently prescribed to the patient, advanced medical directives and any additional information. The L.I.F.E. File pouch is a vinyl magnetic pouch that is placed in an easily seen location on the front or side of the refrigerator.

You may pick up L.I.F.E. Files from Town Hall and local fire stations. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information on the L.I.F.E. File program please contact Jackie Rose, Community Outreach Coordinator at JRose@losgatosca.gov

Volunteers sought for Bike Valet at Local Events

The Los Gatos Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is supporting free Bike Valet parking at local events, building on the success of the Red, White and Blue block party, where we parked over 100 bikes, so we are ready with plenty of space and racks. Volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! You can sign up with some friends and make a date of it and high school students can even receive community service hours. Cyclists arriving at the event are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Typically volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts with each shift led by an experienced commissioner. If you would like to help out, please contact Maria Ristow, ristows@comcast.net to become a part of this amazing volunteer team. Help us take more cars off the road and make it easy for people to bike downtown.
