Summer is coming and with it
beach weather and beach traffic

Los Gatos enjoys many wonderful activities and events throughout the summer.  Unfortunately as the summer weather arrives, so too does the summer beach traffic. The Town has tried several different strategies to address this regional issue over the past few years and this year, this Town will be doing select street closures and other measures to reduce some of the impacts to our local streets.

In addition, here are a few tips for the summer weekends:
  • Plan ahead when weekend weather looks like beach weather.
  • Schedule weekend appointments and errands before 10:00 a.m. or after 3:00 p.m.
  • If you live near your destination and walking is an option, enjoy the day by walking into Town.
  • If you live near your destination and biking is an option, enjoy the day by biking into Town.
  • Make an effort to support local businesses that feel the impact.
  • If you live in an impacted neighborhood, position your car on the street or back into your driveway so leaving your home is easier.

Our public safety officials take the safety of our residents and our neighborhoods very seriously. Police and fire will respond to emergencies as a priority, ensuring a continued high quality of service.  Be aware that, as exasperating as traffic on your street may be, by itself the traffic does not constitute a public safety emergency and our Police Dispatchers need to keep phone lines open for life threatening situations.

To be responsive to our residents’ concerns, the Town has set up a dedicated “Beach Traffic Reporting Line” at (408) 354-6810 or beachtraffic@losgatosca.gov.  Call or email, and a Town staff member will follow-up during business hours.

Let's enjoy a safe and fun summer in Los Gatos!

Alert SCC

Disasters Don't Plan Ahead.
You Can.

The County's Office of Emergency Services offers two simple steps you can take to help prepare for disasters and protect your family. The first is to sign-up for the County's emergency alert system, which is AlertSCC.  Second, create a family disaster preparedness plan with the new ReadySCC app. ReadySCC helps you create a plan, put together a kit, and know what to do and where to go in an emergency.  You can download ReadySCC for free from the App Store or Google Play.

MED-Project Program

The Police Department is participating in the County of Santa Clara MED-Project Program (Medication, Education, and Disposal), designed to encourage proper disposal of prescription medications. This is a free service fully funded by the MED-Project. Government facilities and private businesses (drug stores) within the County are receiving secured disposal bins for kiosk disposal of qualified medications. The bins are like US Postal Mailboxes and there will be one disposal bin located in the Police Operations Building lobby.

Lifesaving Information For Emergencies (L.I.F.E.) File

Emergencies can happen when we least expect them to and many of the requests for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) happen within the home. The Town of Los Gatos is partnering with the Santa Clara County Fire Department to promote their new L.I.F.E. file program. The L.I.F.E. File is a simple tool individuals and families may use to assist emergency responders during a medical emergency.   First Responders rely heavily upon the patient, and/or the patient’s family members, to provide information used to help in the treatment and care of the patient. However, there are times when the patient is unable to provide this information and family members may not be present or available to assist First Responders during a medical emergency. The L.I.F.E. File information includes past pertinent medical history, allergies to medications, medications currently prescribed to the patient, advanced medical directives and any additional information. The L.I.F.E. File pouch is a vinyl magnetic pouch that is placed in an easily seen location on the front or side of the refrigerator.

You may pick up L.I.F.E. Files from Town Hall and local fire stations. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information on the L.I.F.E. File program please contact Jackie Rose, Community Outreach Coordinator at JRose@losgatosca.gov

Volunteers sought for Bike Valet at Local Events

The Los Gatos Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is supporting free Bike Valet parking at local events, building on the success of the Red, White and Blue block party, where we parked over 100 bikes, so we are ready with plenty of space and racks. Volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! You can sign up with some friends and make a date of it and high school students can even receive community service hours. Cyclists arriving at the event are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Typically volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts with each shift led by an experienced commissioner. If you would like to help out, please contact Maria Ristow, ristows@comcast.net to become a part of this amazing volunteer team. Help us take more cars off the road and make it easy for people to bike downtown.
