Holiday Safety Tips

Here are some tips to keep in mind during the holiday season:

  • Be alert and aware of the people around you, maintain confident body language.
  • Keep shopping bags, valuables, purses, and wallets close to you. Keep purses or bags closed.
  • Supervise children always.
  • Recognize that there is safety in numbers, shop with friends and relatives.
  • Park in a well-lit, well-trafficked area of the parking lot at stores and malls.
  • Have your keys in your free hand well before approaching your car.
  • After opening gifts, don't advertise to criminals your big-ticket items with your trash. Tear down and cut up product boxes to fit into garbage and recycling cans.

Department at 408-354-8600 or dial 9-1-1 during an emergency

Congestion Relief School Bus Service

The Town of Los Gatos, in partnership with local public and private schools, is exploring the feasibility of a local school bus service, with the primary goal of reducing traffic congestion near schools. The initial concept includes neighborhood based pickup and drop-off locations, with vehicles and drivers meeting State and industry safety requirements. The earliest possible start of the service will likely be January 2019 with a few select routes.
Currently the Town of Los Gatos is taking the lead to study the feasibility of such a service that would operate independent of the schools.  The Town is working with a growing list of stakeholders including LGUSD, LGSUHSD, SR2S, Home and School Clubs, Hillbrook School, and many others.
The next major milestone of the study is a parent survey among all LGUSD and Los Gatos High School families to gather feedback on interest levels and support.  The survey will be available from January 16th to 31st next year. Every response is super valuable in determining the feasibility. Please help us get the word out and respond to the online surveys.
You can find regular updates on the progress through the study’s webpage and the Town’s social media platforms. If you have questions or need additional information, contact us at We look forward to hearing from you!

Lifesaving Information For Emergencies (L.I.F.E.) File

Emergencies can happen when we least expect them to and many of the requests for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) happen within the home. The Town of Los Gatos is partnering with the Santa Clara County Fire Department to promote their new L.I.F.E. file program. The L.I.F.E. File is a simple tool individuals and families may use to assist emergency responders during a medical emergency.   First Responders rely heavily upon the patient, and/or the patient’s family members, to provide information used to help in the treatment and care of the patient. However, there are times when the patient is unable to provide this information and family members may not be present or available to assist First Responders during a medical emergency. The L.I.F.E. File information includes past pertinent medical history, allergies to medications, medications currently prescribed to the patient, advanced medical directives and any additional information. The L.I.F.E. File pouch is a vinyl magnetic pouch that is placed in an easily seen location on the front or side of the refrigerator.

You may pick up L.I.F.E. Files from Town Hall and local fire stations. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information on the L.I.F.E. File program please contact Jackie Rose, Community Outreach Coordinator at

Volunteers sought for Bike Valet at Local Events

The Los Gatos Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is supporting free Bike Valet parking at local events, building on the success of the Red, White and Blue block party, where we parked over 100 bikes, so we are ready with plenty of space and racks. Volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! You can sign up with some friends and make a date of it and high school students can even receive community service hours. Cyclists arriving at the event are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Typically volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts with each shift led by an experienced commissioner. If you would like to help out, please contact Maria Ristow, to become a part of this amazing volunteer team. Help us take more cars off the road and make it easy for people to bike downtown.
