Proposed Veterans Memorial Story Poles are Installed

The Veterans Memorial and Support Foundation of Los Gatos (VFLG) has proposed developing a Veterans Memorial at the Town’s Civic Center. In August 2015, the Town Council approved the conceptual placement of a memorial in the general location of the ivy/redwood grove  In addition, in June 2016 the Town Council approved a “flame” conceptual design for the proposed memorial

Town staff is currently evaluating the proposed project plans through an Architecture and Site (A&S) application.  The applicant’s proposed plans are available at: The A&S process includes analyses by the Town’s Consulting Arborist and Consulting Architect as well as documents from the applicant to support the design.  These and other documents are available for public review during public counter hours (M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or by appointment) in the Community Development Department.  Story poles depicting the scope of the proposal have been installed at the Civic Center.
The Town Council is ultimately the deciding body for the final Memorial design. Comments regarding the proposal are welcome and should be sent to Sean Mullin

Catch a R.Y.D.E.

R.Y.D.E. Senior Transportation Program is starting on October 23. More volunteer drivers are needed.

Residents of Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Saratoga who are 55 years and older can schedule a ride by contacting the Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council at (408) 892-9739 or  RYDE fees are fixed based on the number of miles of a specific trip. Discounts of up to 90% off the standard RYDE fees are available for those who qualify.
More drivers are needed to meet the expected high demand.  Volunteers can work as little as 2 hours per week providing rides for seniors.  This will significantly help a senior to age in their own home and help to prevent social isolation. Please consider signing up to help!

Lifesaving Information For Emergencies (L.I.F.E.) File

Emergencies can happen when we least expect them to and many of the requests for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) happen within the home. The Town of Los Gatos is partnering with the Santa Clara County Fire Department to promote their new L.I.F.E. file program. The L.I.F.E. File is a simple tool individuals and families may use to assist emergency responders during a medical emergency.   First Responders rely heavily upon the patient, and/or the patient’s family members, to provide information used to help in the treatment and care of the patient. However, there are times when the patient is unable to provide this information and family members may not be present or available to assist First Responders during a medical emergency. The L.I.F.E. File information includes past pertinent medical history, allergies to medications, medications currently prescribed to the patient, advanced medical directives and any additional information. The L.I.F.E. File pouch is a vinyl magnetic pouch that is placed in an easily seen location on the front or side of the refrigerator.

You may pick up L.I.F.E. Files from Town Hall and local fire stations. If you, or anyone you know, would like additional information on the L.I.F.E. File program please contact Jackie Rose, Community Outreach Coordinator at

Volunteers sought for Bike Valet at Local Events

The Los Gatos Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is supporting free Bike Valet parking at local events, building on the success of the Red, White and Blue block party, where we parked over 100 bikes, so we are ready with plenty of space and racks. Volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! You can sign up with some friends and make a date of it and high school students can even receive community service hours. Cyclists arriving at the event are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Typically volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts with each shift led by an experienced commissioner. If you would like to help out, please contact Maria Ristow, to become a part of this amazing volunteer team. Help us take more cars off the road and make it easy for people to bike downtown.
