This pilot project completed October 28, 2019. You can find the Town Council discussion on this item from the October 1, 2019 Council Meeting here:
We invite you to Experience Los Gatos like never before as we transform North Santa Cruz Avenue to a one-way street heading southbound between Bachman Avenue and Elm Street. This pilot project will offer new ways to experience downtown including:
> One-way traffic southbound for a portion of N. Santa Cruz Ave.
> Parklets, also known as sidewalk cafes, for gathering outdoors to enjoy our beautiful Town
> Added southbound bike lane
> Angled & parallel parking
By reinventing the downtown streetscape, residents and businesses will get to experience one-way traffic, wider sidewalks, and a move towards a more active and pedestrian friendly downtown. The experience will inform possible future permanent changes to the downtown.
The Town Council recently approved two distinctly different pilot programs that each include opportunities for parklets:
1. As a part of the one-way pilot, the Town will be installing and programming seven parklets along N. Santa Cruz Ave. for the duration of the one-way pilot program. Look for these bright and inviting spaces to gather with friends and family, soak in the sun, and enjoy all that our beautiful downtown has to offer.
2. Private businesses and commercial property owners located in downtown may apply to construct and operate a more long term parklet through the Town's recently adopted Parklet Pilot Program. This program is a public/private partnership that promotes outdoor dining and active community spaces.
