Child Advocates of Silicon Valley

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley is a local nonprofit that provides mentors, advocates, and friends to children in foster care in Santa Clara County. Our volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) spend a few hours a week (10 hours a month) meeting with a child who they choose from our waiting list of over 150 children. We serve everyone from day-old babies to people in their early 20's; our volunteers take children to the park, go hiking, read at the library, or play games, building a connection that often changes both of their lives. Unfortunately, 58% of teens in foster care in California are unable to graduate high school, but last year, 95% of the teens we served completed their graduation requirements. If you're interested in becoming a CASA, email for more information or sign-up for one of our monthly community info sessions:

Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury

The Civil Grand Jury, as part of the Judicial Branch of government, is an arm of the Superior Court.  It serves as the county’s investigatory body, and has the authority to examine all aspects of county and city government, school districts, and special districts.  The Grand Jury also has the statutory authority to inspect the adult and juvenile detention facilities.  Service on the Grand Jury affords citizens a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to the efficiency and integrity of local government.
Once a year, the Judges of the Superior Court recruit qualified applicants to serve a one-year term. Residents who have lived in the county for one year, are United States citizens, and are 18 years of age or older may apply for service. The deadline to submit an application for consideration for service on the 2015-2016 Civil Grand Jury panel is Friday, April 10, 2015.

How to Apply

Complete and submit the 2020-2021 Civil Grand Jury Application and Nomination Form by the application deadline. After submitting an application, you will be contacted by Court staff at the close of the application period regarding the next steps of the recruitment process.
For more information, please visit the Superior Court website.  Inquiries may also be sent to

Art Docents of Los Gatos

Date: Quarterly Meetings/Small Committee Assignments
Time: Varies
Location: Los Gatos
Volunteers Needed: Community Members for our Board

The Art Docents of Los Gatos is a non-profit group of mostly volunteers that works in conjunction with the Los Gatos Elementary School District to provide the visual arts services to students in the district, grades K-8. Our organization has been a nonprofit 501-C group in this capacity for 35 years and solely services programs for the Los Gatos Elementary District.

We are in need of community members for our Board. Members are not required to know about art; we need people who have business, law, financial and other pertinent skills (technology, HR, etc.) who would be able to attend 4 meetings/year and work on small committee assignments pertinent to Board business. Raising money is not necessarily a Board function, but has been in the past. Mostly we need interested people who could volunteer their expertise and give back to the community in a very focused way.

Visit our website at for more information on our organization or call 408-335-2366.

Heart of the Valley

Heart of the Valley is a 501 (c) non profit volunteer agency dedicated to working with senior residents of Northern Santa Clara County. Our mission is to help those seniors living independently stay independent.

They offer the services of the "friendly neighbor" including escorted transportation for appointments, shopping, errands, temporary respite, light yard work, computer assistance and some pet care activities among many others.

They are accepting volunteer applications all of the time and are badly in need of those who are able to provide transportation. We have no minimum or maximum age requirements, number of hours served or number or type of service provided.

To assist the current staff and volunteers working in the office juggling all the additional requests and programs, they have developed four new volunteer descriptions. These are: Leadership Volunteer, Peer Volunteer, Staff Support Secretary Volunteer and Telephone Reception Volunteer,
