Police Reserves Program
The Reserve Officers of the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department are dedicated volunteers from various business professions and backgrounds throughout Santa Clara County. Reserve officers are paraprofessional peace officers and are a vital and integral link in the operational structure of the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department.
Reserve officers augment, complement, and support full time officers in performing the mission of the Department under the authority and direction of the Chief of Police.

Reserve officers, while on duty, have a fundamental obligation to serve all people while constantly striving to uphold the Peace Officers Code of Ethics in that service.
Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Reserve officers believe all citizens have the right to live, work, and play in a safe environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen: permanent resident aliens must apply for citizenship one year before application date
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license
  • Excellent health and physical condition
  • Vision acceptably corrected to 20/20
  • No misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude
  • No felony convictions
  • Good moral character and emotional maturity
Education Requirements
  • High School diploma or its equivalent, e.g. - G.E.D Certificate.
  • Completion of Basic Police Academy
  • Basic First Aid and CPR Certificates
Hiring Process
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements may be considered for a position upon successfully passing the following:
  • Written examination
  • Physical agility test
  • Polygraph examination
  • Psychological examination
  • Background investigation
  • Medical examination
  • Oral interview
