2005 COMMUNITY UNITY PROJECTS

 

1.         Perform General Home Repairs

Completed over two dozen interior and exterior home repairs for seniors in the community.

 

2.         Deliver Baskets to the Homebound

Several groups are working at different time of the year on this project.

 

3.         Paint Meeting Room at Live Oak Adult Day Services

Volunteers partnered with United Way to paint three meeting rooms.  Benches were provided by the Los Gatos Lions Charities.

 

4.         BBQ Lunch for Seniors

Volunteers were available to help cook, serve, and clean up.

 

5.         Develop a Senior Center

 

6.         Identify Sites for Under 21 Club Events

            Volunteers are working to locate a permanent location.

 

7.         Install and maintain a sprinkler system at the Los Gatos Youth Park

 

8.         Clean up Youth Park and work on Boy Scout hut

 

9.         Establish a Regular “School Clean-up Day” at LGHS

            Volunteers established a work day in April, hope to arrange more.

11.       Volunteer to Assist CASA with Marketing

 

12.       Produce a Children’s Mural for the 2005 July 4th Event

At the Los Gatos Celebrates the 4th of July event, children were asked to paint pictures of “What Makes Me Happy.”  The completed mural is at the Los Gatos History Museum, and is available for display.

 

13.       Collect Books for a Book Sale to Benefit the Library

Los Gatos Community Foundation has dropped off over 100 books.

 

14.       Work on Trail Maintenance and Beautification Projects

Did weed abatement and general clean up on the trail from Forbes Mill Museum to the Main Street Bridge. An on-going project needing volunteers.

 

15.       Design and Install a Community Garden

Postponed due to lack success finding a site.

 

16.       Clean up County Parks and Trails

Los Gatos Rowing Club organized a clean-up effort around Lexington Reservoir. Just over 30 people showed up to collect trash. More then 50 bags of trash was collected, estimated at 1,000 pounds. Park officials were very pleased at the number of volunteers and their efforts. The LGRC would be willing to continue with this project on a semi-annual basis, volunteers welcomed.

 

17.       Clear Brush for Bike Lane Safety

 

18.       Install Lighting on the Street Between LGHS and the Venue

 

19.       Develop an Arts Consortium

Agencies involved in the arts in Los Gatos are invited to join a consortium in order to create an Arts Calendar of Events.

 

20.       Develop a Web Page for Community Volunteer Opportunities

The Community Unity web page was created on the Town’s website.
 

21.       Volunteer for Live Oak Senior Nutrition and Service Center

            Volunteers helped with the Senior BBQ and Health Fair. Board Members still needed.

 

22.       Provide Adult Supervision for SafeRides, the Venue, Concerts, and the Under 21 Club

23.       Create and Maintain A Place for Teens Teen Calendar Website

 

24.       Participate as an adult mentor on the board of A Place for Teens

Leadership Los Gatos alumni and current participants will be contacted.

 

25.       Help KCAT establish a recording studio and youth radio station

 

26.       Participate in Stash the Trash Day

            Over 350 volunteers organized by the Calvary Church of  Los Gatos collected 396 bags

            of trash from 10 areas in Los Gatos.

 

27.       Participate in Bloom-a-thon

            Held annually in the fall/winter, volunteers plant bulbs in areas around Los Gatos.

            Information will be available on the Community Unity website.

 

28.       Clear Trail from Forbes Mill to Boy Scout Hut

Eighty students and 20 adults cleared this neglected and overgrown trail by starting at either end and meeting in middle to celebrate.

 

29.       Volunteer at Los Gatos Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service

            Volunteers helped with annual service hosted by Cngregation Shir Hadash.

 

30.       Participate in Congregation Shir Hadash Living Room Discussion Groups

 

31.       Help with fundraising ideas for the Theater Improvement Project
