 The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Explorer Post has been serving our community for over a quarter century. The Explorer program is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America's Learning for Life Program and the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno Police Department.

Explorer requirements:
Be between the ages of 14-21 and have graduated from the Eighth Grade;
Maintain a 2.8 grade point average;
Have had no contacts with law enforcement that would adversely affect the position;
Have a desire to serve the community and learn about law enforcement.

Currently there is no fee to join.

Some of the ways in which Explorers serve the community:
Provide traffic control and crowd control at the annual Holiday Parade and other special events;
Provide security at the Town’s Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony;
Assist officers and learn the patrol procedures during "ride alongs;"

Training:
Additionally, Explorers receive valuable training from a variety of Law Enforcement Officers with different specialities.
  • CPR/AED Training
  • Community Emergency Response Team Training
  • Criminal Justice/ Knowledge of Laws
  • Contacting Citizens
Explorers also have the opportunity to attend a two-week Explorer Academy with Law Enforcement Explorers from other departments over the summer where Explorers can make valuable connections with peers, as well as receive a valuable glimpse of what training at a Police Academy is like.
